Before you begin
This is what I make when I’m missing my yum cha fix. While not quite the same, it’s enough to prolong the cravings.
- If you haven’t already, you’ll need to have prepared a batch of pork and mushroom wontons. See the recipe here.
- I also like to eat 98% of my asian meals spicy so here I’ve called on a spicy sauce. If you’re not a fan of spice, simply omit.

Ingredients
- 10-15 prepared wontons
- 1 tbsp neutral flavoured oil
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 tbsp water
- ¼ tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp chilli crisp, oil (to taste)
- spring onion , finely diced
- coriander , roughly chopped
- fried shallots
Instructions
- Fill a 2L saucepan with water on high heat and leave it to boil. Add in 1 tbsp of neutral flavoured oil. This will help keep the wontons from sticking to each other.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, water, sesame oil and chilli
- Once the wontons are floating and you can see the skin get slightly transparent and loose, they are ready.
- Place the cooked wontons on a bowl or plate. Spoon over the sauce mix, leaving some on the side for dipping if needed. Granish on top with the spring onion, coriander and fried shallots/
